Working with Flexi

Chats

A chat is one piece of work: naming, chips, files, replies, archive.

A chat is one piece of work with Flexi: one conversation, one set of working files, one Doc, one list of Tasks. Start a new one for each piece of work, from the + on the Chats list (the green + in the bar on a phone). A new chat starts fresh: it doesn't see the other chats' talk, and what should carry across lives in the Library.

Everything you send is kept: in the chat, and as plain text in the project's log, a file a month in .flexos/log/ in its repo. Everyone on the project can read it, and so can Flexi in any chat. A key or a password goes in the Vault, never the box.

The name

A new chat takes the first line of your first message as its name until Flexi names it. The name is the chat's header and the browser tab's title. Rename it by clicking the title in the header on Everything; on a phone, tap the title or the ⋯ beside it to open the chat's sheet, with the name at the top. A name you give is never replaced by his.

What a chat holds

Everything a chat holds is listed under it, as its stack: its Notes and Tasks, its named notes, then the things you work on in it, and Everything else. On a desktop the open chat unfolds in the Chats list with its stack under it; on a phone the layers icon at the top right opens it. What a chat holds says more. Whatever you open, the message box stays under it.

The message box

  • Chips sit above the box: a tapped chip is sent as your message. When Flexi's last reply offered none, the defaults stand in: Show me the preview, What should we do next?, Make it look better.
  • A new, empty chat offers cards. One that is a whole question, like What can you do?, is sent. One that starts a sentence, like What's slowing my business down is…, goes in the box for you to finish.
  • Files: attach any file, up to 50 MB each. When you send, the files are saved into the chat's folder first, each chip saying Saving, then Saved, and only then does the message go. A zip is unpacked, never kept as a zip. A file you sent is a chip over your words; tapping it opens it.
  • Replying to one message: an arrow beside a bubble (on hover on a desktop; always, beside Flexi's, on a phone) puts a quote of it over the box, and what you send is drawn under that quote.

Never paste a key, a password or a card number in the box. The page stops most of them and offers the Vault instead; Keys and the Vault says how.

Flexi's replies

His replies are markdown: bold, lists, links, code and small headings. A blank line starts a new bubble. A file he made is a card in the thread, and in the chat's stack once the turn that made it has ended. A commit to the site is a card too.

Archive

The archive box sits in the chat's header on a desktop, and in its sheet on a phone (tap the title). An archived chat leaves the Active list and nothing is deleted: Archived on the Chats list shows it, and everything it made stays in its folder in the repo.
